My Journey as a Daikin Europe International Young Graduate

Hailing from Colombia with a background in mechanical engineering, Juliana is a current participant in the Daikin Europe International Young Graduate Programme. We caught up with Juliana to learn more about her experience and how it shaped her career, plus get her advice for new recruits looking to work at Daikin!

The job hunt begins

One of the most difficult challenges a graduate will face is finding the right job opportunity after University.

Although I began my job search during the last few months of my final Master’s year, finding the right position that matched my educational background and diverse interests proved to be very difficult.

That’s when I discovered Daikin Europe’s International Young Graduate Programme. Based in Belgium, the programme caught my eye because it offers recent graduates the chance to gain work experience at Daikin Europe HQ and an affiliate office to prepare for a permanent position in the company.

The opportunity to work in different departments and countries was exactly what I was looking for in a job. After seeing the ad on LinkedIn, I decided to take a chance and apply!

Landing the interview

After applying online, I was invited to a brief interview and to take a couple online assessment tests. Two months later, I made it to the final stage of the hiring process: a personal interview at Daikin Europe headquarters in Ostend, Belgium.

Although I was nervous, the final interview turned out better than expected and a few weeks later I received my official acceptance to the programme! I could not believe it. I had a great opportunity in front of me and I was ready to take it!

The journey begins

My first assignment was as a Data Analyst in the Environmental Research Centre in Brussels, Belgium. During this time, I was able to meet several people from different countries and departments, which was enlightening on a cultural and professional basis.

Yet one of the most valuable takeaways was the opportunity to assist the team with several important projects. I even proposed an easier way to process and analyse data and help create a tool the department uses today!

After this module, I was onto my second assignment in the testing area of the EMEA Development Centre (EDC) in Ostend, Belgium. A fascinating and exciting department, the EDC is where Daikin Europe tests and creates new products and concepts. My job was to work closely with the design team to ensure new units comply with current regulations and Daikin’s high-quality standards.

Fast forward to today, I am now preparing to move on to my third and final module. For this assignment I will be working as a Sales Consultant for Daikin Spain. Although this position will be something completely new and different from anything I’ve ever done before, I am ready to branch out of my comfort zone and try something new!

Are you ready to take on the challenge?

The Daikin Europe International Young Graduate Programme was the best fit because it includes all my diverse interests and educational background. I also recommend this programme for anyone interested in the HVAC-R industry and working in an international company. If you are accepted in this programme, be prepared: this experience will shape you as a person and support you in achieving your future endeavours.
